We are delighted to welcome poet, playwright and broadcaster Ian McMillan back to North Lincolnshire in September for a series of inspiring poetry events.
19 September – ‘Poetry Across The Curriculum – Bringing Poetry to Life’
At this engaging inset session, Ian will share his top tips for teaching poetry effectively, reflecting on strategies which help to bring the words to life, galvanizing pupils’ interest. Ian will be joined by regular collaborator, accordionist and composer Luke Carver Goss.
*Please note that this session will take place from 1.30-3.30pm. The cost is £25 per delegate, schools which have purchased the SLA will receive a 20% discount.
20 September – ‘Poetry and Art Workshops’
The next day it’s the children’s turn! We are on the lookout for pairs of creative KS2 pupils (one with a passion for writing, the other with a talent for art), who can collaborate to create an illustrated poem, for a future North Lincolnshire anthology. Exploring the theme ‘A Pride of Place’, this collection will celebrate the colourful characters and wonderful landscapes of our community. For this fun, interactive workshop Ian will be joined by award-winning Private Eye cartoonist Tony Husband and musician Luke Carver Goss.
*Please note that there are two chances for children to participate in this unique opportunity – sessions run from 10.00-11.30am and 1.30-3.00pm. £10 per pupil, maximum four pupils per school (two writers, two artists). Pupils must be accompanied by one or more staff members. Please contact Alice.Broadhurst@northlincs.gov.uk to secure places.
